Meals and Recipes
A meal is a recipe you've saved: a name, its ingredients, how many servings it makes, and per-serving macros. Once saved, logging it is one tap — and planning it for dinner puts its ingredients on the shopping list automatically.
The Recipes tab has two views: Recipes (your meals) and Foods (the plain-food library the recipes are built from).
Create a recipe
Tap New recipe (or Create meal from ingredients in Foods). Give it a name, servings, and ingredients. Each ingredient can be:
- Linked to a food in your library, with an amount and unit — linked ingredients power the macro math and the shopping list.
- Free text (like "kosher salt") — listed in the recipe but ignored by the math.
Servings can be fractional — a recipe that makes 3.5 servings is stored as exactly that.
Instructions, notes, and a video link each have a place: Instructions are numbered steps (one per line), Description is for everything else — source, storage tips, per-serving context — and the video field holds one link.
How macros are computed
Per-serving macros can be typed in from the recipe's own nutrition info, or auto-filled from the linked ingredients: FuelKit totals each ingredient's contribution and divides by servings.
For that to work, an ingredient's amount has to be convertible into the linked food's serving. FuelKit converts automatically within mass units (g, kg, oz, lb) and within volume units (tsp, tbsp, cup, ml), including plurals and abbreviations — so 200 g of a cheese whose label is per-ounce just works.
Crossing between weight and volume ("1 cup of shredded cheese" against a per-gram label) needs a bridge on the food: a per-food equivalence like 1 cup = 113 g. Add one where volume amounts meet weight labels.
An ingredient that can't be resolved contributes nothing and is flagged rather than silently counted as zero — if a recipe's calories look low, check for a flagged ingredient and fix its unit, link, or bridge.
Serving vs. pack — the two sizes on a food
Every food can carry two different quantities, and keeping them straight is what makes both the math and the shopping list right:
- Serving — the quantity the macros describe (the label's "per 84 g"). This drives recipe autofill.
- Pack — how you buy it (a 16 oz bag), plus a purchase mode: pack (buy whole packs), loose (buy by amount), or staple (pantry item — the list just says "check stock"). This drives the grocery list.
Never put the pack size in the serving slot — a 452 g bag "serving" makes every recipe using that food absurdly caloric.
Recipe types
Each recipe gets a type (chicken, beef, pork, turkey, seafood, egg, dairy, pizza) derived automatically from its name and ingredients, used for filtering and variety in the planner. You can override it on the recipe if the guess is wrong.
Log a saved meal
From Today, search the meal's name or find it in Quick add — one tap logs a serving. Tapping the name first lets you pick the slot and how many servings you ate.
